The specialist firm commissioned by Landesimmobilien Burgenland confirms that no asbestos contamination was found in the areas of Schlaining Castle that were inspected.
The study examined the gravel-surfaced paths within the castle, the gravel in the main courtyard and the Black Courtyard, and the gravel in the castle arena. The professional and representative tests revealed no health concerns. Based on current knowledge, the materials used do not pose any health risks.
The areas of Schlaining Castle mentioned above can therefore continue to be accessed and used without hesitation.
The results previously published by Greenpeace were based on individual material samples and, due to the nature of the sampling, do not allow for a representative assessment of a potential hazard or the local air quality.
The results of the professional inspection are clear: There is no asbestos contamination at Schlaining Castle within the jurisdiction of the State Real Estate Agency.

In recent days, there have been media reports about the discovery of natural asbestos in rock samples taken at various tourist attractions in Burgenland, including the area around peace castle. Since we take your safety and well-being very seriously, we would like to provide you with transparent and factual information about the circumstances.
Working closely with Landesholding Burgenland, Landesimmobilien Burgenland, and Kulturbetriebe Burgenland, we take every issue related to your stay with us very seriously and maintain ongoing direct communication with all relevant authorities.
No health risk to visitors and guests
First things first: According to the latest information from the authorities and expert teams, there is absolutely no health risk to our visitors and guests.
- Naturally Occurring Asbestos:
The asbestos mentioned in the media occurs in a naturally bound form within rock. In this form, it poses no health risk. - Air quality is the key factor:
A health risk can only arise if fine asbestos fibers enter the air we breathe in high concentrations. The state task force has made it clear that the legal limits for asbestos fibers in the air were not exceeded at any time and that it is absolutely safe to be on the entire premises. - Precautionary Measures on Site:
Although there is no immediate danger, the owners and we are taking this situation as an opportunity to implement precautionary measures. To minimize dust formation on paths and open areas from the outset, the affected outdoor gravel surfaces will be watered several times a day, effective immediately. Please note, however, that the water evaporates quickly, especially in high temperatures.
In addition, the relevant state authorities are conducting a professional, standards-compliant inspection and sampling to ensure continued maximum transparency and safety.
